In a fitness centre, you are as fit as your trainer pushes you to be. At Khimji’s BodySpeak, located at Muttrah, a team of three trainers – Paresh, Irfan and Soumini – are the biggest motivating factors. Throughout the day, at their given times, the three ensure personalized and individual attention to the members under their care. Pep talks and advice are all part of the scientific-oriented training. It’s also why the gym maintains its exclusivity – it’s open to all Khimji Ramdas staff and a few select members outside the organisation. It offers two exclusive time periods for women.

“We would like to think of fitness as fun. Basically, we first try and understand a clients needs with a one-on-one discussion and then formulate exercise schedules which differ from individual to individual. Our idea is also to break some common myths. First of all, we must understand that losing weight is not the only motivation to hit the gym. Secondly, women who do strength training do not built muscles and lastly the treadmill is not the only option to lose weight,” says Karem Shaik, Business Manager, Fitness Unit, Special Projects Division, Khimji Ramdas LLC.

Soumini, who trains women at BodySpeak says that, “Women undergo many changes right from puberty to menopause and even suffer from depression. In Oman, people either lead stressful or sedentary lives and so it becomes imperative that they take up any kind of fitness as an extra activity.”

“The best thing about our Centre is that there aren’t too many people at a given time. This helps trainers focus on each person well. The availability and accessibility is important and therefore the facilities and trainers get used to the maximum.”

Khimji’s BodySpeak recently won an award from Cybex for the best performance in the Middle East ‘in promoting fitness as a concept’.
