Khimji’s Mart, the largest supermarket chain in the Sultanate of Oman, announced the opening of its 22nd outlet in Mumtaz Area, near Darsait.

| Pizza Hut shares the good times by delivering Pizza’s for the 40th National Day Celebrations |
|
Pizza Hut, Sultanate’s favourite family dining restaurant took the unique opportunity to deliver over 77, 000 pizzas to school students and thousands of Ministry officials on the grand occasions of the 40th National Day pageant Celebrations. Over 100 Pizza Hut crew members were on the job clocking around 150 man-hours to serve the specially selected pizzas. The event was held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports stadium, Bausher from 22nd November to 4th December 2010.

ENERPAC - KR Oil & Gas Division Introduces Unique Synchronous Lifting Solutions to the Oman Market

In an exclusive one day seminar conducted at Crown Plaza, Muscat, Khimji Ramdas Oil & Gas division announced the introduction of a unique Synchronous Lifting technology, the first of its kind, to the Oil & Gas, Construction, Power Plants, Reactors and other related industries, in Oman, in association with ENERPAC, the global leader in high-force tools and equipments.
The synchronous lifting solution is an Engineering system from ENERPAC Hydraulics to control the lifting, lowering and positioning of any large, heavy or complex structure, regardless of weight distribution. Synchronous lifting reduces the risk of bending, twisting or tilting, due to uneven weight distribution or load-shifts between the lift points.

Digital sensors provide accurate force measure with multiple lifting points in movement, lifting or lowering.

Khimji Ramdas Shipping LLC

|
Khimji Ramdas Shipping LLC has commenced their Cruise Winter Season 2010/2011 with Ocean Village with 1482 passengers on 31st October. Regular calls of Costa and AIDA has started in November. We have induced more shipping lines to call Oman and hence the projected growth in passenger traffic into Omani ports would be around 25% this season. The last vessel for the season will be Dawn Princes on 19th June 2011. This is the first year for us to stretch the winter cruise season from October to June.
We will be attending to 77 ships and expect to receive around 165,000 passengers at Port Sultan Qaboos, Muscat alone this season. Overall, we are scheduled to attend 101 ships at all Omani ports including Salalah, Sur, and Khasab with anticipated passenger numbers around 200,000 for this winter season 2010/2011.
The world renowned, brand new cruise vessel, Queen Elizabeth came out of Fincantieri Monfalcone Ship yard from Italy on 1st October 2010 and the official naming ceremony was in Southampton on the 9th October. The vessel was scheduled to call Muscat on the 30th March, 2011, but as per indications given to us, Queen Elizabeth will not be in a position to make her maiden call into Muscat port, owing to the fact that the port has already confirmed the berth to two other large vessels on the same date. Present port facility can accommodate only two large vessels and it is really unfortunate that Oman is on the brink of losing the distinction of hosting a prestigious cruise ship.
Khimji Ramdas Shipping is a pioneer in Cruise industry and has invested considerable efforts in promoting cruise traffic through Omani Ports. The cruise traffic has developed considerably over the last ten years and more carriers are now showing interest in calling Omani ports. The ports in Oman are more favored locations in the Arabian Gulf Cruise because of the authentic Arab heritage, hospitality, hygiene, architecture and user-friendly regulations from ports, Royal Oman Police and government authorities.
Khimji Ramdas Shipping represents Costa Crociere, AIDA Cruises, Carnival UK, Ocean Village, Cunard, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, All Leisure Group and V.Ships managed vessels such as Silver Seas Cruise Vessels, at all Omani ports and has earned a market leaders status now. We have developed special team of experts to handle cruise vessel, ferry and naval ships.
Since the main operations on these three trades are handling passengers, special care was given whilst tailor-making the training program for our ground handling team. We have purchased assets for vessel operations as well as passenger transfers. This was done for reducing dependency on vendors, for giving the cost benefit to the tourists and for providing a dependable service. Our principals have expressed the highest satisfaction for all their port calls in Oman.
Khimji’s House of Travel takes care of all travel related services and hence the group is now capable of offering all cruise related services under one umbrella. They have specialists in inbound and outbound tours and have a special section to develop cruise holidays. The air port office of Khimji Ramdas assists smooth transfer of passengers and ships crew from the airport to the respective sea port.
Recently, considerable interest is also seen among Omani nationals and expatriates living in Oman in cruise holidays. The Arabian Gulf Voyages are the ideal opportunity to experience cruises at most economic rates. Initially the travelers were more concerned about the cruise call locations, but now they have realized that the ship is the destination. The domestic tourist can avoid expenditure on flying to a boarding location in Europe or Far East by joining a cruise in the Middle East. The volume of tourists on cruise vessels are increasing as it gives a complete holiday with superior facilities on board at very economic rates.
Costa Crociere, European arm of Carnival PLC have scheduled 33 port calls to Muscat and AIDA Cruises have scheduled 23 port calls to Muscat during this winter season with Aida Diva. Costa Crociere are deploying CS Costa Deliziosa and CS Costa Luminosa to the region with ships having a capacity of 2800 passengers.
We feel that the time has come for improving the facilities in Muscat, Salalah, Sur and Khasab as we witness higher interest from cruise operators for this region. Currently there are no cruise terminals in Salalah, Sur and Khasab. More cruise operators will consider calling these ports if facilities are available.
We have requested the port authorities of Muscat to urgently consider development of the port in two stages. The immediate requirement is to dredge the channel and turning basin to accommodate at least three large vessels of 400 meters at a time. This should be done on priority so that the facility will be available for 2011 winter season. Many large vessels are expected during 2011/2012 winter season and hence priority will have to be given for making this facility available during the next season.
The second phase should be focused for development of a state of the art cruise terminal to attract passenger exchange through Muscat. The geographical location of Muscat is ideal for passenger exchange. The regional cruise can begin from Muscat and terminate in Muscat. The passengers will get an opportunity to spend some additional days in Muscat either while embarking the vessel or while disembarking through Muscat. The new cruise terminal should have facilities for fast turn round of large number of passengers.
Passenger exchange through Muscat will give tremendous boost to the new air port traffic, hotel reservations, tour operators, restaurants, curio shops, taxies and every business connected with tourism. Currently the tourists come to Oman on a cruise vessel in the morning and leave in the evening after a short tour in the region. If will be more advantageous to the tourism industry when the tourists stays back in the country for at least three days. This can be achieved only by attracting cruise line operators for passenger exchange through Muscat.

26 National Employees of Khimji Ramdas attend international training at Cochin, India

26 National Employees of Khimji Ramdas Group are in India to attend a two-week comprehensive “Effectiveness Training program” aimed at enhancing their communication and leadership skills.
Effectiveness Training program is conducted by a team of professionals from SB Global Educational Resources Pvt Ltd from Cochin, India with years of international training expereince. During their stay in India, these selected young and performing national employees of Khimji Ramdas will be groomed in the areas of personal effectiveness, commitment towards the organization, time management, working in groups, personal hygiene, career and self-development and computer skills.
The previous batch of National employees who were trained at Symbiosis University, Pune are today placed as Assistant managers at different Khimji’s Mart retail outlets across the country. Khimji Ramdas has taken on the corporate social responsibility to nutrure the national talent pool and hone their skills to take more responsible roles in the future.
Aida Al Balushi, Khimji Ramdas, HR Department, said “I was one of the first batch employees to attend the Effectiveness Training program in Cochin, India a few years ago. The experience was very practical and career oriented and gave me the much needed confidence at work. I have learnt to overcome my shyness and hesitation through regular interactions with senior leaders in my organization. Today, I am leading the team of 26 national employees to India and it’s a proud moment in my career with KR.”
Facilitators focus on role-plays and real life examples that give fresh perspectives to issues related to improving work place productivity. Emphasis is given more on practical aspects and problem solving at work place.
Highlighting the need for structured training, S. Sivam, GM, Human Resources, Khimji Ramdas said, “It has been our constant endeavor to provide the best inputs for Development of our National employees keeping future Managerial needs of KR. With this in mind we have been regularly sending our young and performing employees to various training programs in Oman & outside Oman. One more step towards this objective has been accomplished when we sent 26 employees to Cochin, India on 29th October 2010 for an “Effectiveness Training program”. This program has been conducted twice earlier and well received and appreciated by the participants. The employees have immensely benefitted from this program and have been able to apply the acquired skills at their workplace and in their personal lives. We shall be sending another batch of National employees in the month of December 2010. We hope this initiative will go a long way in grooming our employees to take up higher responsibilities and positions in future.”
The success of these training programs is measured by positive feedbacks received from participants and divisional heads of himji Ramdas.

8 months ago, under the aegis of the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Khimji Ramdas started-off its campaign for recruiting and training the first batch of Nationals from higher various educational colleges in Oman, to be placed in the Managerial Cadre at Khimji’s Mart.
Today, the task has been accomplished. 13 National candidates who were selected as Assistant Manager designates in Khimji’s Mart 8 months be will now go on-the-job playing a vital role in managing Khimji’s Mart Supermarkets across Oman. In the ensuing period they have under gone 4 months of training at KTI, One month training at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, (SIBM) Pune, and 2 months on the job training.
H.E. Sayyid Hamad bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary - Labour Affairs, awarded the certificates to the Assistant Managers from Khimji’s Mart at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel today. He inaugurated the continuing initiative taken by Khimji Ramdas Infrastructure Group for placing Nationals at the Management level trainees positions with the infrastructure group. Over 1800 students from various disciplines were interviewed and 23 deserving Nationals were selected to undergo training with Khimji Training Institute.
H.E. Sayyid Hamad bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary - Labour Affairs, handed over the curriculum rolls of the new training session to all the 23 candidates selected for KR-INFRA Group.
The directors and senior management of Khimji Ramdas along with important ministry officials were present during the function. This program of induction and training of Omani nationals into the KR managerial cadre has been jointly initiated and supported by the Ministry of Manpower.
The selected colleges include Sultan Qaboos University, Ibra College, Mussana College, Nizwa College, Sur College, Scientific College of Design, Caledonian Engineering College, Majan College and Muscat College spread across different regions of the Sultanate.
The selection process included screening tests, group discussions and interviews for more than a period of 6 months. 23 deserving National candidates were selected from a spectrum of disciplines including Engineering, IT, Business Administration, Telecom, Human Resources, Accounting, Electrical, International Trade and Finance, Tourism and English. On successful completion of the training the trainees will be inducted as Management Trainees in Infrastructure Group of Khimji Ramdas.
Anil Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas said “Khimji Training Institute (KTI) has led the efforts to select, recruit and train Nationals for managerial level for top corporate houses in Oman with the ardent support of the Ministry of Manpower. The main focus of this training is to bridge the gap between academic qualification and on-the-job requirement. Keeping in the mind the benchmarks of international training standards; the course curriculum was developed to suit the local needs with valuable inputs from the ministry officials. We are also happy to note that more and more corporate houses want Nationals to be trained at the supervisory levels.”
Khimji Training Institute will take on the responsibility of training the selected Nationals in all areas of management. The foundation training program will include IT, English Language, Communications, Numerical skills and other managerial skills. The advanced occupational training program will include Customer Management, Health and Safety, Work Ethics, sales & Marketing and other management skills. The total training period will be for a period of 6 months; four months at Khimji Training Institute and two months on-the-job. The training will be conducted by an expert team from KTI and guidance from international faculty.

Khimjis Mart LLC, Muscat – the largest supermarket chain in the Sultanate announced the winners of its Retail Awards 2009 .The award competition featured for 4 categories mainly; “Best Outlet of the Year” and ”“Best employee of the year”, “Best outlet manager of the year”, “Best ‘National’ customer service manger of the year” out of the entries from 19 outlets and nearly 475 Khimjis Mart employees. The winners were felicitated in the annual staff get-together held at Oman Aviation Club on 10th Feb, 2010. Khimji’s Mart Al Khuwair won the Best Outlet of the Year award where as Mr.Jitesh Bhimji Thanki, Mr.Jayaprakash S Pillai, & Mr. Ibrahim Issa Khamis Al Balushi bagged the awards in their category of Best Employee of the Year, Best Outlet Manager of the Year and Best ‘National’ Customer Service Manager respectively.
Presenting the award, Mr.Nailesh Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas, said “Khimji’s Mart has maintained its tradition of setting new benchmarks towards better customer service that are vital for a professional environment; The objective of these awards is to inculcate and inspire employee related best practices towards customer excellence”.

| World's largest liner, Queen Mary 2, to make maiden call in Muscat |

History will be made when Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2, the largest, longest, tallest, widest and most expensive liner ever built makes her maiden call at Muscat on 26th day of January 2010. Queen Mary 2 will arrive at 0730 hours and sail at 1700 hours.
Queen Mary 2 will berth at # 1&2 and her visit will include Muscat city tours, souq, Grand Mosque, Nizwa and various tourist attractions around Muscat.
Queen Mary 2 entered service on 12 January 2004 after being named by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at what was the most spectacular naming ceremony ever, four days earlier.
Everything about Queen Mary 2 is superlative and she offers a host of ‘firsts’ and exclusives. 79% of cabins feature private balconies. There is artwork worth over £3.5 million on board. Queen Mary 2 will be the largest Cruise vessel to Call Port Sultan Qaboos. The management and staff of Khimji Ramdas Shipping, which is celebrating its 25th year (silver jubilee) of operation is deligted to have got this opportunity of bringing in Queen Mary 2 into Oman for the first time. This important port call became a reality with the whole hearted support of Port Service Corporation. The vessel will be brought inside only if the wind speed is moderate and the weather is good; since she has a large free-board, the ship will act like a sail in heavy wind. Port Service Corporation is taking adequate preparation for taking this large vessel inside. Queen Mary2 will occupy two berths whereas a normal ship occupies only one. This port call is going to garner international media attention to Port Sultan Qaboos and Oman in particular in the cruise industry.
It will be a spectacular view from the Corniche to see the entry of Queen Mary 2 into Port Sultan Qaboos at 0730 hrs and sailing at 1700 hrs on 26th January 2010. Muscat – The Brand Oman Management Unit (BOMU) and organizers of the 1st Muscat Youth Summit hosted a debriefing session on Sunday evening at the Diplomatic Club for Summit presenters and supporters.
Held 7 - 9 December 2009 at the Al Nahda Resort & Spa, the UNESCO-backed, three-day residential program attracted presenters from around the world, including Australia, Germany, Jordan, France and the United Kingdom. While key local supporters included the Ministry of Education, Shababiah, Shell, Omran, Khimji Ramdas, Al Maha Petroleum, Oman Botanic Garden and Qalhat LNG.
Addressing Sunday’s meeting, BOMU’s Alya Al Hosni and Summit Project Manager said: “Feedback from everyone involved in the event has been outstanding. We had nearly 200 participants from over 10 countries attend the Summit. It was a truly rewarding experience for everyone involved.”
Commenting on the Summit’s venue, Al Hosni remarked: “We’re so glad we chose Al Nahda Spa & Resort - it was just amazing, with excellent support from the staff, wonderful food and service and of course the beautiful gardens where participants could relax and chat in between the Summit’s rich and challenging program of presentations, workshops and site visits.”
Speaking on the sidelines of Sunday’s meeting, Rajiv Ahuja of Khimji Ramdas said: “The success of the 1st Muscat Youth Summit speaks highly of the calibre and quality of the guest speakers and relevant subject matter.” Adding: “The three-day program attracted a wonderful mix of participants - students of different ages, backgrounds and nationalities. Feedback from those attending Sunday’s debriefing session clearly suggests that the 1st Muscat Youth Summit was a success and proves that Oman’s youth are committed and interested in their community.
“From my experience of interacting with Summit attendees, it was clear they were intelligent and well-informed about both local and global environmental issues. It was great to be able to hear their opinions and concerns on sustainability, innovation and urban development, and hopefully the Summit’s presentations, workshops and site visits provided them with some answers and food for further thought,” commented Sarah Kneebone of Oman Botanic Garden.
According to BOMU’s Al Hosni: “The key message we received from the Summit was that young people do care and respond very positively and welcome the opportunity to be involved in issues that affect their respective communities and that’s something BOMU intends to explore further.”
