| Philip Morris award for The Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children
Muscat - The Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children has received the Philip Morris award for charitable organizations for 2003, in recognition of its efforts towards disabled children. Albert Bamboukian, Director Corporate Affairs (Middle East), based at Philip Morris Services SA, presented the award to Dr Mohammed Ridha Hassan Suleiman, Chairman of the Association at a ceremony recently.
The organization is the fourth recipient of the award in Oman. Launched in 1999, 'The Philip Morris Award for Charitable Organizations' rewards organizations that provide for the special needs of the handicapped and the elderly in each of the six-member states of the AGCC.
The Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children is the 16th recipient of the award in the Gulf states after the Bahrain Mobility International, the Hope Institute for Handicapped, the Bahrain Association for Mental Retardation and the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society in Bahrain, the Qatar Learning Centre for Handicapped, the Kuwait Club for Deaf, the Elderly Mobile Home Care Centre and Kuwait Autism Centre in Kuwait, the Handicapped Guardians Association and Dubai Charity Association, Bait AI Khair Society in the UAE, the Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children, the Oman Association for the Disabled and Al Noor Association for the Blind in Oman.
Albert Bamboukian, Director Corporate Affairs (Middle East) at the representative office of Philip Morris Services S.A. in Dubai ('PMS'), said that the Philip Morris Award for Charitable Organizations was launched in 1999 to reward organizations that provide for the special needs of the handicapped and the elderly in each of the six-member states of the AGCC.
Philip Morris has worked in coordination with the leading charity groups in Oman to ensure full participation by concerned parties in the award process. A judging panel has been formed to evaluate the organizations that provide to the special needs of the handicapped.
The panel studied all applications and evaluated the work of each charity based on a set of criteria established by the judging panel. The Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children has been unanimously selected. The Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children is a non-profitable institution that provides to the special needs of 200 children with physical and/or mental disabilities. It offers various types of services including educational, social and rehabilitation programmes. In addition the organization seeks to assist the handicapped guardians by providing them with professional support through regular home visits to train them how to take care of their handicapped children.
In addition to the $20,000 cash donation, PMS will run advertisements in various publications in Oman that aim at highlighting the recipient's work and at the same time raise public awareness of the important role of charities in the society.
Supporting local communities, wherever Philip Morris International does business, has been part of the company's culture for nearly 0 years. "PMS believes that as a company, we are in effect 'citizens' of the communities in which we operate. This concept of 'corporate citizenship' entails both benefits and responsibilities. Part of those responsibilities involves giving something back to society. We do so through our societal contributions, notably focusing on areas of hunger and nutrition, disaster relief, adult education and the environment. The "Philip Morris Award for Charitable Organizations", an initiative by PMS, is consistent with PMl's efforts to support programmes that tangibly benefit the societies in which we operate. With this award, we want to help existing organizations that provide for those in societies with special needs and encourage others to support the work of these charitable organization," added Bamboukian.

| Four Selected From Sultan’s School To Represent At United Nations In Geneva
Swiss International Air Lines and Fromagerie Bel, represented by Khimji Ramdas, sign on to support programme
Muscat, December 8, 2004: Four high-achieving students from The Sultan’s School in Muscat will travel to Geneva this weekend to participate in The Students League of Nations. Abdullah Al-Balushi, Mariam Bhacker, Shaima Al-Khabori and Asya Al-Marhubi have been selected to represent the Sultanate, due to the diligence and hard work applied to their studies.
As part of its own project, The Model United Nations Project, the school received this rare invitation to send student delegates, in recognition of continuing plans at The Sultan’s School to develop a comprehensive international curriculum. Earlier this year the school adopted the IGCSE programme, and hopes to realise the start of the International Baccalaureate curriculum by September 200. The Geneva trip is the starting point in the development of a large-scale project that will see cross-curricular awareness of international issues raised and debated by students in the Sultanate.
The Students’ League of Nations is a prestigious international conference, involving teams of two students ‘representing’ the interests of a UN member nation in a simulated United Nations General Assembly, which offers them a unique chance to learn about the workings of the UN from the inside.
For two days, the student-delegates will be walking the corridor with real UN delegates and during the debates will hear keynote speeches from Mr Sergei Ordzhonikidze (Director General of the UN in Geneva) and Sir John Daniel, (President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth of Learning). Past keynote speakers have included the late Sir Peter Ustinov (actor and UNICEF ambassador), and Professor George Walker (Director-General of the International Baccalaureate Organisation).
On announcing that Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) would be providing the students with airline tickets for the trip, Peter Schilter, Country Manager for SWISS, said of the project: “The Students League of Nations provides an excellent platform for these students to appreciate the role of the United Nations in today’s world. We are very proud to have been able to support the programme, and wish the students well in their endeavour.”
Khimji Ramdas, who represent Fromagerie Bel, (producers of the famous brands of cheese such as Kiri and La Vache qui rit), in Oman, are supporting the project by providing the support staff travel and future conference facilities. Adil Ghouse, GM, Consumer Products Division, Khimji Ramdas, said: “The Sultan’s School is the Leading Bilingual School in the Sultanate, and the fact that their students have been selected to represent the country is a great honour. We are thrilled to be able to support youth projects such as this one, which bode well for the future of the country.”
On returning from Geneva, the four students will be able to turn their expertise towards the launch of phase two of the Model United Nations Project, presenting their findings and sharing their experience with their fellow students.
Clive Pierrepont, Director of Admissions and Business Development, The Sultan’s School, said: “On February 17, 200, students from across the capital area will be invited to participate in a Model United Nations General Assembly at a venue to be announced. We will therefore be able to include a larger number of students, benefiting them with this new and exciting programme.”
The Sultan’s School has future plans to develop this local conference into a large-scale international event, attracting students from around the world to the region, an event that should help put Oman firmly on the international map for students of the future.

| MOTOROLA E398 given an Award Of Excellence by CELLPHONE MAGAZINE, UK
The prestigious magazine “Cellphone” of UK has given the Motorola E398 an Award Of Excellence in their recent review of the latest models available in the market.

The E398 is quite ground-breaking in that it is the first to have stereo speakers built-in. it has plenty of other music-related features to get music lovers singing, such as exclusive MTV wallpapers, screensavers, video clips and games – plus on exclusive ringtone, wallpaper and screensaver from the Black Eyed Peas. The E398’s sober candy-bar design masks the funky features within. | Khimji Ramdas Shipping all set to receive 1700 passengers to Muscat on world- renowned cruise ship AIDAblu - Oman Tourism to get a big fillip
One of the world’s innovative cruise ships CS AIDAblu is scheduled to call Port Sultan Qaboos, Muscat on the 29th October, 2004 marking her maiden visit to the Sultanate.
CS AIDAblu was built in 1990 by one of the world’s renowned Italian shipyard Fincantieri Naval Italiani SPA. Gross registered tonnage of CS AIDAblu is 70310, 24.06 meters length overall and 32.2 meters wide. The cruise ship has 14 decks and accommodates 1663 passengers (lower berth) and has 832 cabins with most modern facilities on board such as jogging tracks, swimming pool, theatre, casino, health spa, fitness area, etc. The modern cruise ship has 7 restaurants on board with seating capacity of 1384 plus. In addition to the restaurants the ship also has 7 bars and cafes on board.
AIDA Cruises, which is now the German undisputed leader of cruise ships, operates and markets fascinating holidays on water with the entire fleet of the AIDA line. The ships of the AIDA fleet are operated by AIDA Cruises according to ISPS and ISM quality, environmental and safety standards. Khimji Ramdas Shipping represents AIDA Cruises in the Sultanate.

Khimji Ramdas has set up an experienced operational team to handle the ships call smoothly. “We have to disembark 1700 passengers in an hours time”, explained Mr M C Jose, GM KR Shipping. “Mr Saud Al Nahari, the Executive President of Port Services Corporation is working closely with us to ensure no delay takes place for the operations of the vessel”. Even though the ship is arriving during the holy month of Ramadan, the operation is programmed to go as normal due to the support of Royal Oman Police Immigration, Customs and Coast Guard. All departments of Port Services Corporation are also extending their support for this port call.
CS AIDAblu is scheduled to return to Muscat for a day on the 4th November, 2004 on her return voyage to Heraklion, Greece. On her return leg, the ship would pass through Safaga, Adabya and Suez Canal (Egypt).
Mr Michael Thamm, President of AIDA Cruises is the person responsible for day-to-day operations of the line. Mr Michael Thamm and his delegation were in Muscat on a fact-finding mission during 2001. The cooperation received from the local authorities, President of Port Services Corporation, Royal Oman Police, Coast Guard, Immigration, Tourism Department has helped KR Shipping in persuading the delegation to include Muscat in their winter itinerary of CS AIDAblu.
KR Shipping expects AIDA Cruises to look at Omani ports seriously to have more calls in the future. The tourists who visit Oman on the cruise vessel for one day return in smaller groups by air to spend a longer duration in Oman after seeing the beautiful city of Muscat. The short visit on the cruise is an appetiser for an extended holiday in Oman. The tourists appreciate the rich heritage, Omani hospitality, superior hygiene and safety. | ETHIOPIAN SHIPPING LINE’S MV KARAMKARA CALLS PORT SULTAN QABOOS FOR THE FIRST TIME
MV Karamara, the Ethiopian Shipping Line (ESL) vessel is scheduled to have her maiden voyage to Port Sultan Qaboos, Muscat on the th October, 2004. Karamara is calling Muscat port to load PVC pipes to Ethiopia. This marks the entry of one more prestigious shipping line in Oman’s shipping trade and the beginning of a direct service to Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Shipping Lines is represented in Oman by Khimji Ramdas Shipping Division.
ESL has been servicing the Gulf Region, through Sharjah, for almost a decade but this is the first time that it would be touching the Muscat port. ESL’s future plan is to connect Muscat on Middle East/Indian Ocean Red Sea service, once inducible volumes build up. Foodstuff, Stationary, Canned fish, Building materials, PVC Pipes, Soap Noodles, Plastic Wares, Auto Parts are some of the cargo that are exported regularly out of Oman.
Ethiopia being a land locked country, the cargo gets discharged in Djibouti for onward connection to Addis Ababa. ESL has very good arrangements for easy transfer of cargo to hinterlands. ESL gives to its customer a complete package service, from sea service to inland transport delivery and warehouse services. Recently ESL has acquired 34,000 square meters of land just at the outskirts of Addis Ababa to give dry port and bonded warehouse facility to its customers. This has given ESL an upper hand over its competitors.
ESL owns 10 multi purpose vessels and one tanker. ESL operates 4 trade routes i.e., UK/North Continent to Red Sea, Mediterranean and Adriatic to Red Sea, Far East/South East Asia to Red Sea and Middle East/Indian Sub continent to Red Sea. ESL has plans for the immediate future to renovate its fleet structure with modern and better capacity ships.

Mr. Jaysinh Ashar Damodar, an employee of Khimji Ramdas was felicitated on 21st, June, 2004 for completing fifty years of service with the company. Mr. Ashar joined the company on 20th June, 194. During his tenure he worked in various capacities in Muscat and Salalah. In a senior position at the Head office now, he was earlier the Divisional Manager of the Furniture Division of the Company.
A citation was awarded to Mr.Ashar by Mr Kanaksi Khimji, Partner, Khimji Ramdas. The citation lauded the achievements of Mr.Ashar, and appreciated his contribution to the development of the organization. A memento was presented to him by Mr Anil Khimji. Several employees paid encomiums to Jaysinh Ashar on the occasion and spoke in glowing terms of their long association with him.
Mr.Ashar in his acceptance speech thanked the organization for providing him an opportunity to learn and grow. He praised the professional environment, coupled with the humane and supportive cultural ethos of the company and remarked that this was unique to Khimji Ramdas.

Omani youth from various colleges participate, exchange views on diverse topics relevant to their situation and the nation. These discussions are interspersed with popular music numbers. Some of the topics that have been featured on the show include “Working under Pressure”, “Humour in Everyday Life”, “Art and the Artist”, “IT - The Way Ahead”, among others.
