Khimji Ramdas & ROCA launch two new designer lines in sanitary ware

Khimji Ramdas organized a seminar with "ROCA", Spain, the leading sanitary ware manufacturer In Europe, at the Gulf of Oman Conference Hall at the Al Bustan Palalce Hotel on Dec 12, 200.

ROCA, the undisputed market leader in sanitary ware was founded in the year 1917. It manufactures and markets everything required in the bath room, right from Vitreous China, Mixers, Accessories, Whirlpool bath, Sauna, Ceramic Tiles etc. It has production facilities in 16 countries, employs over 1,000 people and operates in more than 100 countries, with an annual turn over of Euro 1.60 Billion. Roca enjoys the No.1 status in the market place in Europe and in several other countries of the world and is also believed to be the leader at the second place for the whole world.

Their exclusive Distributor for Oman, M/s. Khimji Ramdas LLC organized a seminar at Al Bustan Palace Hotel on 12th Dec 200. The Seminar was attended by officials from various Ministries, Consulting Companies, Architects and Contracting Companies.

Mr. N.S. Vijaya Kumar, General Manager, Infrastructure Group, Khimji Ramdas welcomed the Invitees who were numbering over 20. In his inaugural address, he pointed out as to how Roca, which is at the cutting edge of design and technology for products needed in the bathrooms, is bringing in latest to Oman through Khimji Ramdas. The KR Building Materials Division is playing a dominant role in bringing in world renowned and affordable brands for its valued customers in Oman.

Mr. Victor Schoone, Export Manager, Middle East, Roca in his presentation covered in great detail the various ranges of Roca products, their technical features, testing procedures, guarantee standards etc. He announced the launch of new designer range of models such as the ELEMENT series, designed by David Chipperfield as well as the FRONTALIS series, designed by Rafael Moneo.

Talking about the company, Mr Victor Schoone explained that Roca had invested significantly in research and development and customer studies. It was a result of these efforts that the new lines introduced were not only catering to ever-evolving aesthetic aspirations of the customers, but also incorporating 'need of the hour' water conservation measures. He thanked Khimji Ramdas for the aggressive strategy adopted by them in making Roca one of the most widely accepted brands in the Project, Retail and Villa segments.

Mr. Victor also pointed out that Sanitary ware has turned out to be a fashion statement with most of the up market clients and it is only a matter of time when style and glamour in the bathrooms would be sought after by customers at all levels.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr M G Chegappa, Divisional Manager, Building Materials, Khimji Ramdas who promised the august gathering that KR would continue in their quest to bring more of such educative presentations to keep them abreast of the latest changes in technology and design in these fields.

Motorola Razr sells a breathtaking 12. million units

The RAZR, MOTOROLA’S half-inch-thick, ultralight cell phone, broke a few rules in the industry when it appeared late last year. It’s impossibly compact, simple to operate, and elegant, with an artfully hidden antenna and impressive photographic capabilities. The phone marked a sleek detour from the drive toward bulky features, such as powerful storage device and high-power cameras, that were fattening up phones and preoccupying rival cell-phone makers. No wonder the Razr has sold a breathtaking 12. million units in less than a year.

But Motorola also had to break some internal rules to get the Razr to market. The biggest: Much of the critical work on the phone was done at a downtown Chicago innovation lab known as Moto City – rather than solely in the company’s sprawling traditional research and development facility in suburban Libertyville, Ill. Decorated in a trendy palette of oranges and grays, Moto City fills the 26th floor of a high-rise once occupied by a dot-com.

To hustle the phone into production, Motorola engineers left their cubicles in Libertyville to team up with designers and marketers 80 kilometers to the southeast in Moto City. With its open spaces and waist-high cubicles for even senior managers, the lab fostered teamwork and a breaking down of barriers – both of which contributed to the success of the project. Razr developers, of instance, bypassed a normal process of running new-product ideas past regional managers across the world. Because they wanted to lead the market, not just give managers and customers what they thought they wanted, the Razr team put aside normal practices. “We did not want to be distracted by the normal inputs we get.” Says Gary R. Weiss, senior director of mechanical engineering, “It would not have allowed us to be as innovative.”

Innovative labs are sparking teamwork and breakthrough products and Motorola Razr and Moto City are prime examples of this new trend.

KR & Hydratight organises seminar on Joint Integrity Assurance

Khimji Ramdas & Hydratight organised a seminar on “Joint Integrity Assurance – The Operational and Economic Benefits” at the Sheraton Oman on 16 November 200.

The Presentation was inaugurated by Mr Pankaj Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas. The driving force behind Joint Integrity is lowest cost of leak free production, improving employee and asset safety, and preserving the environment.

Following this was the launch of SP 2020 by Mr. Andre Gombault, Head of Mechanical Engineering, PDO. Mr. Paul Holland, Director, Hydratight made his Presentation on Joint Integrity.

Since developing the technology of hydraulic bolt tensioning some 30 years ago to solve the problem of leaking joints, Hydratight has continued to push back technological barriers with many new and innovative engineering products for bolting, joint integrity, pipe repair and connection systems.

In 2001, Hydratight accepted the challenge set forth by the UKCS (United Kingdom Continental Shelf) offshore operators to assist in reducing the number of reportable leaks by 0% in three years. One initiative was to co-author the Guidelines for the Management of Integrity of Bolted Pipe Joints for UKOOA (UK Offshore Operators Association).

Having established a benchmark and best practices to achieve a leak free safe plant Hydratight continued in its effort to develop new systems, procedures, risk assessments, training & competency needs, health & safety requirements and thus enhance quality of offerings.

Significant improvement in the integrity and safety of operating plants resulted from all these efforts. It was established time and again that the actual cost of the leak was far higher than the cost of its avoidance. Major Operators thus chose Hydratight to assist them in achieving leak free and safe plants.

Hydratight has been offering its products and services in the Middle East for well over 20 years and has consolidated its presence in the region with service bases to support the local needs. PDO initiated efforts to bring about a change in the way bolted flanged joints are managed in their assets & the launch of its new Standard for Flange Tightening SP-2020 is the outcome of this initiative.

Mr. P. C. A. Mohan GM, Hydratight Middle East discussed the relevance of JIA in the region with specific case studies. Also included were a brief overview on product capabilities and services in the region.

Mr. Vijay Kumar, GM, Infrastructure, KR highlighted the role played by Industrial Machinery & Tools Division in bringing the Expertise and Products of Hydratight into Oman.

Detailed presentations on the above to key personnel involved in the Energy Sector in Oman was organised by Khimji Ramdas Industrial Machinery & Tools Division at Hotel Sheraton Oman on Wednesday, 16 November, 200 which was attended by over 70 people representing major Operators and Contractors in the country.

Summer Camp 200 with 190 students at KTI

The bell rings, papers fly, kids wildly run everywhere, and teachers finally crack smiles. The long and strenuous school year was over, and everyone was going home for the lazy, hot summer.

Most people enjoyed lazing around the house, but the more active ones were off to Summer Camp 200 at (KTI) Khimji Training Institute LLC.

Summer camp 200 an educational Camp was organized by KTI at its Darsait and Al Hail branches from 4th of June till 11th of August 200.
The main focus of the camp was to enhance the overall personality of the kids by making the participants learn while they have fun. In total 190 students participated in that summer camp at both Darsait and Al Hail south centres.

A program comprising of English, Computers and Interpersonal skills was conducted during the camp. The program aimed at developing the skills of school students during the summer vacation. While designing this program the specific needs of the national kids for English language was kept in mind so that the program could fulfuill the needs and requirements of the students and link them to their academic life in their school after the vacation is over.

The parents of the participants were extremely happy with the development they witnessed in their wards each day, during the program. They also appreciated the genuine effort put in by the staff members. Mr. Talib Said Salem Al Jabry, a proud father, appreciated the change he witnessed during the program in his child and added that the outcome of the program, in terms of the knowledge gained by his kids, exceeded his expectations. The program Coordinator at KTI AL Hail Ms. Anisa Sultan Abdullah Al Adawi said that all the students at Al Hail center were National students who were from both government and private schools.

After going through the placement test the participant were divided into two age groups. The first was from -10 years and the second was from 11-16 years. These age groups were further divided into batches with a maximum batch size of 18 keeping in mind the leaning pattern of kids. The participants were trained on word and sentence formation, paragraph writing, spoken English, language games, public speaking and Internet and Interpersonal skills.

On display was the new 42 mm Pasha de Cartier watch with incredible sophistication. Khimji Ramdas Conducts Skill Improvement Programme

Khimji Ramdas has chosen and sponsored 1 Omani accountants for a skill development programme to be conducted by NICE Training Institute.

The Employees will be prepared for appearing for the Certified Accounts Technician certification exam conducted by Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, UK.

The course titled (CAT) which stands for certified Accounting Technicians is an internationally recognized programme based in the UK. The nominated candidates are undergoing a four month long course conducted by the NICE Training Institute at the premises of Khimji Training Institute.

The company also has an educational assistance scheme for Omani employees as an encouragement to continue their education in their field of work. The scheme extends financial assistance for employees who enroll themselves in Part time courses and are willing to pursue it along side their regular work. Flexibility in their working hours is also considered to enable them to attend college/Institute.

Khimji Ramdas has more than five hundred Omani employees. Omanisation and skill up-gradation of its Omani employees constitutes a long-term human resource strategic objective of the company.

The supermarket to provide a whole new shopping experience

Following the resounding success of the supermarket in Sur, Khimji Ramdas Group has announced the launch of the new mega Khimji’s Mart at Nizwa to be formally inaugurated on Sunday, Feb. 27, 200.

Extending over an area of 20,000 sq. ft., the shopping center will offer popular brands and wide variety of products under one roof.

A special feature of the Khimji’s Mart will be the extensive supermarket section with fresh vegetables, fruits, meat products, delicatessen, a food court serving hot & ready-to-eat foods, cakes, rotisserie and other bakery items. In addition, a huge variety of Omani products are also on offer.
