Pizza Hut, Oman, today introduced their new daily superb value- packed meals ‘Wajbati Delights’. Recipient of Several International Research Awards in “Food Safety Management System” Professor Chris Griffith will deliver a one day seminar on “HACCP in Hospitality, Catering and Retail Industry” on 25th October 2008 at Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort.
Khimji Training Institute LLC, a Registered RIPH (Royal Institute of Public Health) U.K, training centre has taken the initiative of organising this one day seminar keeping in mind the seriousness with which Oman treats the issue of Food Safety
Professor Chris Griffith, PhD, is the Consultant & Trainer for Food Control Section of Dubai Municipality. He is the recipient of International research awards, including International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), International Food Safety Leadership Award, New Zealand Food Safety Environmental Science and Research ESR International Research Award, National Assembly NSW (Australia) Award. Member of WHO Group on application of HACCP to smaller, less developed, businesses (SLDBs)
This seminar will educate attendees on research comparing different food safety models based upon HACCP principles and review their strengths and weaknesses. For food to be produced safely and consistently such approaches need to be introduced as part of a structured approach with Industry and Government working together.
Moreover implications and directions for public health enforcement on the need for HACCP will be discussed. Possessing an appropriate documented food safety management system is the starting point but not the complete solution to producing safe food.
Given the increasingly high cost and financial penalties associated with food poisoning, and its implications for tourism, participation will be beneficial to anyone with a management or supervisory role in any sector of the food industry.

The largest Khimji’s Mart in the capital opens now at MBD (at the former Shopping & Saving location)
Muscat, October, 19, 2008 - The much-awaited Khimji’s Supermarket at MBD, set to become a new landmark in this area, announced the commencement of its operations on Sunday 19th October 2008. The directors of Khimji’s Mart LLC, Kanak G. Khimji, and Nailesh Khimji were present at the inaugural function.
Khimji’s Mart, MBD is the fifteenth supermarket of the Khimji’s Retail Division. ATech Training, Inc. of Walton, Kentucky hosted two automotive training instructors from the Royal Guard of Oman Technical College (RGOTC) for three days of instructor training August 25-27, 2008. The RGOTC uses ATech trainers and curriculum to teach automotive engine performance and electrical systems to its students. The training included trainer operation, curriculum, system familiarization, and instructional techniques.
Accompanying RGOTC instructors Mohamed Iyaz and Abdullah Al-Mahrouqi to Walton were Tarek El-Saadany, Unit Manager and Vijai Murugan, Senior Service Engineer, Khimji Ramdas LLC, and Michel Homsi, Area Manager for Snap-on Tools International in southeast Europe. Snap-on Tools International is the ATech distributor in Oman through Khimji Ramdas.
The RGOTC provides technical education to sons of members serving in the Royal Guard of Oman. It has over 200 students and follows a curriculum which emphasizes engineering and technology. There is intense competition for the 30 openings for new students each year. Program completion leads to good career prospects in technical fields for RGOTC graduates.

The Royal Institute of Public Health (RIPH) is an awarding body recognized by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and offers both QCA-accredited and “off-framework” qualifications. It provides a portfolio of qualifications that are directly relevant to the workplace. These include:

RIPH qualifications are a recognized benchmark of quality and are recognized by employers internationally. Pizza Hut chain of restaurants are now fully geared up with their staff being trained in Food Hygiene & Safety and HACCP in various levels that is certified from The Royal Institute of Public Health, London, United Kingdom.
This international certificated training program for the staff is an assurance to boost Pizza Hut’s high food safety standards yet another level by honing supervisory skills of the staff. The central production kitchen of Pizza Hut is currently being upgraded to HACCP standards and is in the process of implementing this Food Safety Management System. HACCP (Hazard Analysis critical Control Points), which is recognized world wide to ensure customer’s protection with regard to Food and Beverage.
Pizza Hut central production kitchen is implementing HACCP by establishing a pre-requisite programme focusing on effective and auditable guidelines, policies and procedures for the employees. World No Tobacco Day observed by Ministry of Health & Khimji’s Mart in Saham
Khimjis Mart facilitated an awareness program against smoking and its adverse effects on the World No Tobacco Day – May 31st. The program was arranged at Khimjis Mart, Saham in association with Ministry of Health and National Tobacco Control Committee; and was lead by Dr.Hisham from the Saham Health centre. An LCD presentation describing the adverse effects of smoking, and a quiz competition attracted hundreds of people, other than regular Khimji’s customers at the outlet in Saham. Mr.Madhu Nambiar, Senior Divisional Manager, Khimji’s Retail present at the occasion, commented that it was a privilege to be associated with such a noble cause, alongwith the governmental authorities. Muscat , January 26, 2008: In a heartwarming ceremony, imbued with enthusiasm and cheer, Khimji Ramdas (KR) honoured all those from the company, who represented Oman, under the auspices of the Oman Cricket Club, in the ICC and ACC Tournaments in the last few years. Yes, though it was Cricket that was the highlight of this special gathering (no surprises there, considering KR’s passion for the game); the lone accomplishment in the relatively lesser-followed sports of ‘Short-Put’and “Javelin Throw’was also lauded.

Khimji Ramdas’s Muscat Cricket Team players who have represented the Oman Senior Cricket team in various ACC / ICC cricket tournaments, since 2002, were given certificates of appreciation and cash awards. Their spirited performance, their perseverance and dedication to excel in the sport, won plaudits from all those present in the gathering at the newly refurbished restaurant, The Bollywood at Qurum’s CCComplex. Children of Khimji Ramdas employees who have represented Oman in the Under 15 / Under 19 Cricket tournaments organized by ACC / ICC were also recognized and encouraged, to nurture and foster continuing interest, participation and excellence in the game. It was heartening to note, that the players felt deep pride that their participation not only put Oman, as a country, onto the cricket map of the world; but also brought honour to their company, Khimji Ramdas, which had spearheaded the efforts to attain official recognition for the sport within the country.

A big round of applause was rightfully accorded to two individuals who have left no stone unturned in their quest to take the sport to the level it has reached today -
Madhu Jesrani, Manager of Oman’s Senior Cricket team since 2002, and Madhu Sampat, Manager of the Oman ‘s U 15 / U 19 Cricket Team since 2001. Their sincere and diligent efforts have contributed in no small measure to the sport having achieved a significant level of maturity in the country.

Also felicitated was Adnan Ilyas; though not belonging to KR, Adnan is a senior member of the Muscat Cricket team, and the Oman National Cricket team as well. A special mention was made of Talib Al Balushi, who won the Gold Medal in Short-Put and the Bronze medal in Javelin Throw at the 8th GCC Sports Championship for the Disabled at Doha in 2007. Talib had earlier won two silver medals in short-put in 2006 and 2003. In its role as an enlightened corporate citizen, KR has been in the frontline in supporting the Ministry of Sports Affairs sponsored ‘Summer of Sports’, which is motivating children in the country to adopt sports to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Last year, the company also acknowledged the massive strides made by the Oman National Football Team, by presenting all the team players and officials Rolex watches, as a token of their deep appreciation.

Khimji Ramdas has been in the vanguard of the cricket movement in Oman. Under the auspices of the Oman Cricket Club, it facilitated the holding of some high profile events over the years. It was in 1984 when the Chris Balderstone Benefit and Vijay Manjrekar Memorial Tournament brought the 1983 World Cup –Indian Cricket Team to play with English County and Test players at the PDO grounds. The 90’s witnessed 3 major events - the Air India XI, led by Sunil Gavaskar vs Oman in 1990; the giant clash of India XI & Pakistan XI, comprising Test Players led by Azharuddin and Javed Miandad in 1992; followed by the Veterans Match of India XI & Pakistan XI, led by Sandip Patil and Zaheer Abbas, held under the auspices of the Muscat Festival in 1999. These events helped bring the sport of cricket into the limelight and encourage participation of Omani nationals, who have evinced interest in the game, albeit in a slow and measured, but sure-footed manner.

A standing ovation was given to Kanaksi Khimji by all the members present for his untiring and unstinting efforts to ensure that Oman cricket (which is his true passion, as he avers), achieves the success and recognition that will give it the pride of place in the cricketing world of the future. He said ‘Kudos to each and every member of the sports teams in KR; I am happy to see that the tradition of sports, which not only brings in a salutary physical and mental discipline but also inculcates team spirit and sportsmanship, is alive and thriving in this company. In this I have looked up to the guidance of our noble and visionary leader, H.M. Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and I sincerely wish that this tradition continues in Khimji Ramdas forever”.

In a glittering ceremony at Barr Al Jissa on Dec 30, 2007, the new AFIA PURE SUNFLOWER with extracts of Chamomile was launched in Oman. Launching the product, Mr. Yousuf Ramjoo, General Manager, Afia International Company (AIC) –Gulf, talked about the demand for ‘LIGHT ON STOMACH’cooking oil. Afia Sunflower is the first brand of Edible oil which has extracts of Chamomile. This makes it the only brand which is truly ‘Light on Stomach’. The new Afia Sunflower oil now comes in a totally new, redesigned bottle with an easy to use handle and an attractive new label.
Consumers can start buying the new product from the shelves in all retail outlets very soon. The product is available in convenient sizes of 750 ml and 2 ltr. 2x2 ltr + 750 ml promotion packs will also be available for customers who are looking for more value addition.

| Khimji Ramdas authorized distributor in Oman for Motorola mobile handsets |

Khimji Ramdas Computer & Communication Systems (KRCCS), authorized distributor in Oman for Motorola mobile handsets, hosted a Dealer Conference recently in Muscat. Over 80 representatives from its countrywide dealer network attended the show. It was the largest ever gathering of Motorola dealers, coming from different parts of the country. This forum was used by KRCCS and Motorola to present new products as well as to give a glimpse of Motorola’s ambitious plan to make a major impact in Oman market.

Some of the key differentiators for Motorola’s retailer-friendly business philosophy were emphasized. The second-generation range of Motorola Razr-V8 and Motorola’s popular smart phone ‘MotoQ’were presented in details with live demonstration.
This unique gathering of leading retailers was used by Khimji Ramdas Computer & Communication Systems to give their dealers a glimpse of its aggressive promotional campaigns coming up this year. The audience was also briefed on major steps under way for significant upgradation of service infrastructure. Additional service centers, collection points and training dealer’s technicians were some of the key steps.
Mr.Arun Menon, Country Manager (Oman & Qatar) for Motorola, reiterated company’s long term commitment for Oman market. He assured the audience that Motorola along with their distributor in Oman, Khimji Ramdas, shall ensure the dealers greater value in retailing Motorola handsets in terms of higher profit, efficient after sales support and powerful promotional campaigns. Mr.Rajendra Verma, Business Manager for Personal Devices Division said, “We see our dealers as business partners, not just another channel. Hence, dealers’comfort and profitability are key consideration while planning any of our marketing campaigns. In 2008, Motorola is launching a range of exciting handsets. We will ensure that they are released in the market with our partners’interest foremost in our mind. We want our business partners to do business with us as a matter of choice and enjoy it.”
At the end of the conference the dealers’fraternity were excited about the prospects of having an aggressive Motorola marketing campaign in the market which would boost their business significantly. Some of them were particularly pleased with their luck as they walked away with popular Motorola handsets as surprise gift.

Café Vergnano shines as the Best Café of the Year

It was a proud moment for the management team of Café Vergnano, which won the ‘Best Café in Oman’in the coveted Oman Today Best Restaurant Awards.
