Celebrating Artistic Accomplishments Eshraqa Creates Awareness towards Omani Wildlife

Muscat, 8 July 2019 – In an attempt to garner support and awareness towards the extraordinary wildlife indigenous to the Sultanate, Eshraqa, Khimji Ramdas’ Social Development Arm has initiated a graffiti- mural initiative in collaboration with local artists. Led by Zebrine, a group that promotes contemporary art in Oman, the artists continue to add various drawings of the fauna to the Amerat-Bowsher road. The initiative aims at reminding viewers about conservation of prevalent wildlife within Oman.

Commenting on the unique initiative; Nailesh Khimji, Director Khimji Ramdas said, “Our support to this creative initiative is two-fold, inspiring artist growth within the Sultanate and stimulating preservation of our national treasures. Our precious wildlife plays an important role in balancing the environment which further stabilizes natural processes of the ecosystem. Projects like these create points of conversation which work as educative references in the community while generating interest and awareness. Additionally, the exposure is extremely beneficial for young Omani artists who produce magnificent contemporary art.”

Authorised and recommended by the Wali of Amerat Sheikh Dr. Yahya bin Suleiman Al Nadabi and the Directorate of Amerat Municipality, the mountains now boast a variety of wildlife images including the Arabian Gazelle, Arabian Ibex, and caper plants. In support of this ingenuity, the Wali added, “We remain thankful towards Khimji Ramdas for their financial support towards this modern and distinctive project and hope this generates responsibility amongst citizens towards a role of safeguarding Omani wildlife. The backing by Eshraqa has amplified the contribution and support by other corporate entities in promoting art within the community.”

Suleiman Al Rashdi, the graffiti artist for the project further elaborated, “Contemporary art is still young in Oman and we don’t get many chances to exhibit our skills without such projects. We hope that graffiti will find a fit position in society through supportive platforms from Government and Private sectors.

Designed to champion the development of the community, Eshraqa aims to empower the society with initiatives that are at the forefront of sustainable development. These initiatives demonstrate Eshraqa’s commitment towards investment and support to projects that have a long-lasting impact on the growth of the nation with a wide range of activities including healthcare, education, social welfare and training.
